ABOUT THADDEUS TUKES
The Thaddeus Tukes Trio is an acclaimed jazz ensemble led by Chicago-born vibraphone virtuoso Thaddeus Tukes, whom the Chicago Tribune has praised for bringing "poetry to the vibraphone." Grounded in the traditions of legends like Lionel Hampton and Milt Jackson, the trio delivers a sophisticated blend of swing, soul, and hard bop that spans classic standards and Tukes’ original compositions.
Tukes himself is a pioneering figure in the genre, having earned the first-ever degree in jazz vibraphone from a non-conservatory university (Northwestern University) before performing at world-class venues like Carnegie Hall and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Beyond the trio, Tukes is known for his versatile projects like the house-infused Traptet and the social-justice-focused Chicago Freedom Ensemble, all while currently pursuing a master’s in music therapy to use his artistry as a tool for healing.
